Intro to XR: Metaverse for Education Newsletter Issue #4
Hello Educators & Friends!
What a year this has been for the planet! Web3 has become a shining light toward the potential of an evolved & enhanced world.
We're AMPED for 2022 and the launch of the Eduverse, our k20 DAO, and more opportunities to learn about web3.
This week's issue is an introduction to XR (extended reality), which is a combination of augmented (AR), virtual (VR), and mixed (MR) realities. XR is the evolution of immersive environments for web3. And soon, it will live on the blockchain as a fully 'web3XR' technology.
Although web3XR will be the latest, web2 AR & VR are the dominant technologies being used today. It is a good thing that we have an onramp to learn how to use & evolve with these immersive environments.
As educators, we must experiment with AR, VR, & MR technology to shape the future. This is why we launched the k20 Think Tank on virtual world building in partnership with Gather.Town last month. Our seven global education fellows are producing open source, free maps designed specifically for educators. And next month, weâre launching four contests for the public - anyone who wants to submit a Gather map for education can win a $42,000 subscription to gather.town.
We implore you - experiment, explore, & create, so when the decentralized metaverse emerges, educators will be ready.
Happy New Year & happy reading.
Yours,
Vriti & the k20 educators
